MEXICANAL Network, a Mexico-based channel launched in 2005 by Cablecom and Castalia Communications, targets the Mexicans living and working in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Its lineup features a dynamic range of Spanish-language content encompassing news, culturally significant programs, sports and popular entertainment from public broadcasters, independent producers and local access stations throughout Mexico.
Cablecom and Castalia recognized the need for programming from numerous regions throughout Mexico because the majority of Mexicans living in the U.S. come from places other than Mexico City. Signing programming affiliations with broadcasters from different states, MEXICANAL Network is able to provide precisely that kind of programming.
Since its launch, MEXICANAL has been broadcast across the entire United States through the DIRECTV MÁS package (channel 412). Now, with the process of digitization, the options have multiplied. It is now broadcast on an open signal via the so-called "multicasting" platform in the cities of Las Vegas, Nevada (KTNV); San Antonio (WOAI), Dallas (K31GL), Harlingen (KGBT) and Corpus Christi (KUQI), Texas; Oklahoma City (KOHC); Tucson, Arizona (KGUN); Boise (KIVI-DT) and Twin Falls (KMVT-TV), Idaho; Wichita, Kansas (KCTU); Los Ángeles (KBEH), San Diego (K50LL) and Palm Springs (KMIR), California; and Yakima, Washington (KCJT). In addition, Comcast, the largest cable operator in the United States, has begun to distribute MEXICANAL's signal in such important markets as Chicago, Boston, Houston, San Francisco, Oakland and San José, California, Salt Lake City, Utah, Oregon, Portland and and the southern state of Washington, with plans to expand to other cities with a high number of residents of Mexican origin.
MEXICANAL Network’s robust programming lineup features its very own daily half-hour news program, “MX24 Noticias” (MX24 News), which provides reports on the latest national and international events, and a second broadcast with an additional half an hour of regional information from inside Mexico. MX24 Noticias also includes new sections such as “Por nuestra Tierra”, a tour through the most beautiful places in Mexico. MEXICANAL’s programming showcases “De Kiosko en Kiosko”, in which host Cornelio Garcia visits different municipalities in Jalisco to explore their culture, customs and traditions; "Al Dia Tu Casa", a daily magazine show; and “Reportajes de Alvarado”, hosted by Eduardo Alvarado from different towns of Nuevo Leon. The channel also produces a number of specials throughout the year, including "Supergrupero", “El Grito de Independencia” (The Cry of Independence) and “El Dia de Muertos” (Day of the Dead).
The Network has been recognized for its innovative accomplishments. The channel made headlines when it opened its state-of-the-art production and transmission facility in San Luis Potosi, in central Mexico. Utilizing a unique file delivery system for programming which greatly reduced time and costs for scheduling, transmission and storage and eliminated the use of videotape, the facility was a first among Latin American broadcasters.
MEXICANAL Network has garnered appreciation for its efforts to create awareness among the Hispanic community about important social and educational programs, one such example being the IME Scholarship Program, a fund that aims to elevate the educational level of first-generation Hispanics.
In addition, MEXICANAL Network has earned nine coveted Promax/BDA Promotion and Marketing Awards (three gold, three silver and three bronze ones) for its outstanding promotional spots and campaigns.
